When did you decide to do the copywriting course and why?
I decided to do the course because I was looking for a change in career; I wanted to be more creative and get involved in creative writing. I also wanted to get out of the usual office work and wanted to be my own boss.
When did you complete the course?
I completed the Seminar course in 2006
How has the course helped you where you are today?
Copywriting has helped boost my jewellery hobby into a real business. It's given me the confidence to know that I can do it.

I have learnt to be more confident and positive. I have learnt to grab the opportunities.

It gives me independence and allows for my creativity.
What aspects of copywriting do you like?
The independence it gives me; getting out of the office.
What tips would you give someone who is considering becoming a copywriter?
Just go for it; don't listen to people who say you can't do it. Don't give up; say you can do it; don't pay attention to discouragement.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see Nicole Kidman wearing my jewellery at the Oscars

Determination, belief in oneself and must have a sincere interest in marketing.

If you were to choose your IDEAL client for your copywriting, who would you choose and why?
The ideal client is the one who hasn't done any marketing because they are always thrilled with the results. I like people that have no constraints and are happy to listen to me.
What is your secret to creating successful copy?
I write everything I can think of, I leave it for a while and then I come back to it; there's always a lot of polishing up to do when you re-read.
In 25 words or less describe your thoughts on Bernadette & her copywriting course
Bernadette's course was an invaluable experience; Bernadette herself was an inspiration; I would not be here without her and her course; it has been priceless.
A typical day in the life of ......... Airdrie
I start at 7am by checking emails. If there are any pending designs I will do those first; this will take me to mid-morning.
I will then go to the post office if there are any items to be posted out to clients; when I come back I work on my jewellery and I will check on suppliers for new stuff.
I then update my website with my latest designs or new ideas; generally I update my website at least once a week - sometimes its several times a day.
By the time lunch is over I go to my part-time administration job.
I come back in the afternoon and write proposals for clients. I have a few clients whom I write copy for such as :
- BodyMind Exercise Classes (rewards card, press release & brochure)
- Real Hairdressing (brochure & press release)
- New England Wine Show (flyer)
- St Mary of the Angels (press release)
- Essential Financial Services (web copy for front page of website, sales letter and copy edited information booklet)
- Gnakt Imports (letters)
- Audunn Nielsson Photography (press release)
- St Catherine's School (weekly newsletter, service booklets)
- My loyal hairdresser client in Elwood.
In the evenings/nights I make jewellery; I get very excited when deliveries arrive because this means I can start creating new pieces. It's the best part of the day.
Biggest achievement:
My biggest achievement to date would be having Vogue and New Woman calling me about my jewellery designs.
